Winning a medal at the International Wine Challenge 2019 is an ambition shared by the many wine producers who, every year, participate in this competition with the hope that the value and quality of their product will be recognized. In fact, this recognition allows wine producers to obtain an important certificate of esteem and consideration of their wine worldwide.

International Wine Challenge 2019

The International Wine Challenge reached its 36th edition in 2019, establishing itself as the most refined and meticulously evaluated wine competition in the world.

In order to enter this prestigious competition, the wines must meet certain fundamental characteristics, precisely described in the rules of participation:

  • They must be available on the market and therefore potentially purchasable; moreover, they must be sold through a non-reusable device or closure.
  • The wine presented must be the result exclusively of partial or complete alcoholic fermentation of grapes or grape must.
  • The wine label must comply with the European Union directives, indicating in a clear and easily recognizable way the region/geographical area of origin of the wine product. In this regard, it should be emphasized that temporary labels can be accepted, provided that the proposed information also appears in the final version.
  • Each producer has the possibility to include his wine in a particular vintage only once per year of competition.

Once the wine has been accepted by the commission, it will be subjected to several rounds of selection in which an illustrious jury of oenologists and wine lovers from the world wine scene will express their preference. Each judge, blindfolded, evaluates the product based on fidelity to style, region and aging. Each wine is tasted on three different occasions by at least 12 judges.

Bronze medal for Villa La Pagliaia

Villa La Pagliaia won four awards. The bottles chosen by the jury were:

  • Chianti Classico 2016 – bronze medal
  • Chianti Classico Riserva 2014 – commended
  • Rosso di Montalcino 2015 – commended
  • Brunello di Montalcino 2013 – bronze medal

This is an internationally prestigious award that confirms how the modus operandi of Villa La Pagliaia – both for the line of the same name and for the San Fiorenzo brand to which the award-winning Rosso di Montalcino 2015 and Brunello di Montalcino 2013 belong – is not only in line with international standards, but also manages to satisfy the palate of particularly demanding jurors.
